ABOUT Meghan Gambling
Oh, well, hello there, and thank you for visiting! I am Meghan and I am from beautiful rural North Carolina where I lived for the first 21 years of my life before graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill as part of the inaugural class of the Writing for the Stage and Screen program.
I enjoy singing, rabidly consuming the New York Times, having long in depth conversations with pretty much anyone, and imagining what other people's lives are like. I do not enjoy Twitter, or anything that takes place in outer space. In addition to my half life in NC, I have enjoyed brief residential stints in London and Boulder. For the past 15 years, I've lived in Los Angeles, where I co-parent three active-senior felines, one of which I'm pretty sure is plotting a murder.
As a playwright my award winning work -- much of which I have also directed -- has been produced across the country and published with multiple companies. As a screenwriter I've been hired to write on topics such as abortion, revenge relationships, post WWII Germany, and the underground body parts trade! As a musician I can be heard pushing it to the absolute limit with my fiancé Jason Carmody, as part of our extreme couple comedy band, Identity Crush, most recently in our futuristic robot musical, Casual Lover/Sex Robot! I enjoy writing across mediums. I have adapted theatre to film, film to theatre, theatre to fiction and music to theatre. The more enmeshed I am in one medium, the more I yearn to transform into another. I'm not sure what kind of writer that makes me, but it keeps me engaged.
I am a member of LA's oldest theatre company, Theatre West, as well as the Dramatists Guild and the Producer's Guild of America. I have worked as an associate producer on such shows as Netflix's Haunted, Comedy Central's The High Court, and History's In Search Of.
I am endlessly fascinated by people, their relationships, motivations, dark sides and power struggles, as well as the the socio-political landscape of our dear US of A. I love being from and thinking about the south, and, one day plan to move back to North Carolina and write a ten book inter-generational southern gothic saga involving wealth, landownership, education and inheritance. For now I am adapting my similarly plotted play, Happy Harley, into a novel!
